Educational System
Definition of Course Unit
Article 5: Education in all universities across the country is based on a unit system.
In the unit system, the value of each course is measured by the number of credits assigned to that course, and a student's passing or failing in a course is limited to that specific course.
Each credit unit represents an amount of coursework that encompasses 17 hours of theoretical instruction, 34 hours of practical or laboratory work, 51 hours of workshop or field operations, and 68 hours of internships and work placements, all conducted over one academic semester (or summer term) according to the curriculum approved by the Supreme Council of Planning. For programs that include a project, the duration of the project shall be determined by the relevant instructor in proportion to its credit hours.
Academic Year
Article 6:
Each academic year consists of two academic semesters and, if necessary, a summer term; each semester includes 16 weeks of instruction, while each summer term comprises 6 weeks of teaching.
Note:
The duration of final exams for the semester or the summer term is not considered part of the educational duration.
Limits of University Authority Regarding Curriculum
Article 7:
All universities are required to implement the curricula approved by the Supreme Council of Planning.
The organization of courses, while respecting prerequisites, teaching methods, and adjusting detailed materials and introducing new topics in a course, as well as selecting resources, falls under the responsibility of universities.
Elective Courses
Article 8:
Universities may, as determined by the relevant department, identify a number of courses related to the major and offer them as elective courses to students, provided that the total credits do not exceed the permitted limit for each program.
Exercise Hours
Article 9:
Universities may, if necessary and at the discretion of the teaching group, add up to 20 hours of exercises to the teaching hours in undergraduate programs and up to 10 hours in associate and non-continuous bachelor's programs, throughout the course duration.
