Visit of the esteemed Vice President for Student Affairs to the Imam Jawad (AS) Self-Managed Dormitory

Report of the esteemed Vice Presidency of Student Affairs visit to the Imam Jawad (AS) Self-Managed Dormitory

On Tuesday, 27/1/1392 (April 16, 2013), with the presence of the esteemed Vice President of Student Affairs, Dr. Ghanbari, the Director General of Student Affairs, Dr. Rasti, the Head of the Brothers' Dormitory Administration, Mr. Asghari, and the Head of the Counseling Center, Mr. Nasiri, a visit was conducted from 21:00 to 24:30 at the Self-Managed Dormitory of Imam Jawad (AS).

Summary of the remarks by the esteemed Vice President of Student Affairs during this visit:

Dr. Ghanbari, after touring the entire dormitory and visiting several rooms, attended the study hall to meet with the students, familiarize himself with their problems, and listen to their opinions. The main points discussed are outlined below:

- Every student desires their own home. The reason for accommodating more than the capacity of the Imam Jawad (AS) dormitory is that over 50 students who applied for the dormitory were from cities outside Tehran, therefore it became necessary to accommodate these students.

- The current condition of the Imam Jawad (AS) dormitory is better compared to the previous status (especially at the beginning of the 91-90 academic year) when the contract was recently signed. However, we are also aware that the current dormitory does not meet the standards of an ideal dormitory, and we are striving to create a more favorable situation in all dormitories.

- Despite the budget shortfall, televisions and digital receivers were procured from the 91 budget.

- Regarding individuals who disrupt the comfort of other residents (in terms of not observing student decorum and cleanliness), necessary reports should first be sent to the dormitory supervisor, and if unresolved, to the relevant higher authorities.

- It is essential that students themselves also maintain cleanliness in kitchens and other common areas of the dormitory. For instance, regarding dirty dishes or clothes left in the bathroom, etc., because cleanliness issues cannot solely be placed on the responsibility of officials and others while students do not uphold any standards themselves.

- It is necessary not to walk on the carpets with shoes or slippers, as the carpets in the hall and corridors are placed to prevent dust from entering the students' suites, and not observing this can lead to future contamination.

- Efforts are being made to obtain a more suitable dormitory with better conditions.

- Given the existing shortcomings and the issue of the dormitory’s unsuitability, these should not be used as an excuse to neglect cleanliness and regulations.

Summary of Dr. Rasti's remarks during this visit:

The condition of the brothers' dormitories is not satisfactory to the authorities. Serious efforts are being made to find a suitable location and follow up accordingly.

- Try to make the most of this period, as the undergraduate years are among the best periods of student life.

- It is beneficial for students to utilize each other's resources and experiences in dormitory spaces. For example, training other students in software.

_ In continuation, a question was raised regarding the reason for the renewed rental agreement for this dormitory, to which Mr. Asghari provided the following answer:

The reason for the renewed contract with the Imam Jawad (AS) dormitory was due to the necessity felt. Among 130 applicants for dormitory from the 91 intake, more than 50 were residents of provinces other than Tehran and Alborz, and a sense of duty led us to seek accommodation for these students. Additionally, nearly 50 applicants from the intake years of 90-87 were interested in the dormitory, while around 8 graduates had occupied the dormitories until that time, and in addition, 8 suites of the Imam Reza (AS) dormitory (located at the university), with a capacity for 58 residents, were also released from the dormitory administration's control and handed over to the administrative section.

During this visit, it was decided that:

  1. An LCD television and digital antenna will be delivered to the dormitory soon (this week).
  2. The light in the rooms is insufficient (a 60-watt bulb will be added).
  3. The vacuum cleaner will be repaired.
  4. Bathrooms will be disinfected once a week.
  5. Flush tanks will be repaired.
  6. Heaters will be collected and stacked in the study hall.
  7. Shampoo and soap holders will be purchased for the bathroom.
  8. A large electric mosquito repellent will be requested.
  9. The exhaust fans in kitchens and restrooms will be pursued and purchased.
