According to the university's public relations: Professor Mahdi Barikani visited the Wilayat Madar Industrial University of Qom and predicted a very bright future for the university.
He is a faculty member (Professor Level 39) at the Research Institute of Polymer and Petrochemicals of Iran, where he completed his undergraduate studies at Kharazmi University in Tehran, earned his master's degree at Shiraz University, and obtained his doctorate from Loughborough University in England.
Professor Barikani played a fundamental role in the establishment and development of the University of Sistan and Baluchestan from 1978 to 1983, and after returning from England in 1986, while teaching and mentoring students at Amir Kabir Industrial University, he significantly contributed to the founding of the Research Institute of Polymer and Petrochemicals of Iran. From the inception of the Institute, he held the position of Deputy and Research Director and served as the head of this research center from 1994 to 1999. During his presidency, the Polymer Research Center was upgraded to the Research Institute of Polymer, and with the completion of construction operations and the readiness of the new campus, this institute was moved from its previous temporary location to its current location on Research Boulevard.
The result of his years of research, teaching, authorship, and translation includes 8 books in the fields of laboratory safety, polyurethane, an introduction to polymer dynamics, rigid polyurethane foams, chemistry of aromatic heterocyclic compounds, polyimides as high-temperature resistant polymers, chemistry and technology of polyurethane, and the study of properties and applications of sandwich panels and thermal insulation polyurethane in buildings, in addition to mentoring 80 master's and doctoral students, registering 30 patents, publishing 150 scientific and research papers in reputable domestic and international journals, and presenting 180 papers at national and international congresses. Professor Barikani is also a member of the editorial boards of Polymer Science and Technology journals, Energetic Materials, and serves as an international reviewer for 20 scientific journals such as the Iranian Journal of Chemical Engineering, Polymer Journal, Macromolecular Rapid Communications, Polymer International Journal of Applied Polymer Science, Iranian Polymer Journal, Carbohydrate Polymer, and is a member of scientific societies in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Iran, Polymer Engineering of Iran, Energetic Materials, and Chemical Engineering of Iran.
Professor Barikani has been recognized twice as a distinguished national professor in 1997 and 2003 and also achieved third place in fundamental research at the Khwarizmi International Festival in 2011. At the same time, he received the award from the Khwarizmi International Festival and the award from the Union of the Indian Ocean Region for the transfer of science and technology. Other distinctions include being honored as a distinguished national professor and receiving the late Allameh Tabatabai Award in 2011.
He is also an active member and organizer of many conferences in the field of polymer science and technology and continues to work with his research group in the areas of polyurethane and advanced materials, polyimides, polymer foams, biodegradable polymers, nanocomposites, and green polymers.
