According to the public relations office of the university: The conference on the elimination of preferential currency and the future of government economic policies was held with the presence of Dr. Saeed Farahani, advisor to the Minister of Economy and Deputy for Research and Technology at Qom University, organized by the Islamic Association of Professors at Qom University in the Shahid Akhoundi conference hall of this university.
In this conference, Dr. Farahani addressed the main problems and flaws of preferential currency. He stated: "Preferential currency was highly corrupting because some individuals who received preferential currency were purchasing twenty-seven essential goods for the public with this currency and selling them at market prices. On the other hand, the rent-seeking from such activities became uncontrollable."
The Minister's advisor added: "Considering that the prices of certain items were available to the public in Iran at very cheap rates, and the government was bearing these costs, there was a significant amount of smuggling to neighboring countries, which posed a fundamental damage to the structure of the government."
He pointed out: "In the previous methods, there was a lot of injustice. For example, families in the upper income deciles and families in the lower income deciles benefited from goods distributed with preferential currency in equal measure."
Dr. Zarei stated: "The elimination of preferential currency is highly effective and beneficial, but it needs time to address its shortcomings as soon as possible. If this plan is implemented correctly, inflation will be properly controlled.
