The first virtual defense of a master's thesis was held at Qom University of Technology.
According to the university's public relations office, the first virtual defense session for the master's thesis at Qom University of Technology was held on Thursday, April 17, 2020, with the presence of several faculty members and students. During this session, Mr. Amir Khajani Bijargah, a student in the Environmental Engineering department of the Faculty of Technical Engineering, successfully defended his thesis titled "Modeling Nuclear Pollution Dispersion in the Atmosphere Using Weather Prediction Models." This thesis was completed under the guidance of Dr. Bayram Ali Mohammadi and with the consultation of Dr. Behzad Laiq from the Scientific Board of the Institute of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences of the Meteorological Organization. Dr. Reza Fooladi Far from the faculty of Qom University of Medical Sciences, Dr. Abdolreza Karimi, and Dr. Seyyed Mohammad Dehghan supervised this defense session. In light of the COVID-19 outbreak and the need for the absence of university personnel on campus, in accordance with the resolution of the university's Educational Council and Graduate Studies, the possibility of holding defenses and all research activities, including seminar defenses, proposals, and quarterly reports from students, in a virtual format has been made available. In this context, none of the processes, procedures, laws, or previous regulations have changed; rather, only the method of holding these sessions has transitioned from in-person to virtual.
