Hello. I am Seyyed Mohammad Dehghan, a faculty member of the Power Engineering Department at Qom University of Technology.

What research activities have you undertaken so far?

I have published about 60 scientific and research articles in international journals and conferences, registered 4 inventions, and designed, built, and developed dozens of industrial products among my scientific and research activities in recent years.

 In what fields do you conduct most of your research?

My main research area is power electronics and industrial automation, in which I have successfully developed many research and industrial prototypes.

Please elaborate on the inventions you have made.

One of my inventions, which has also been produced in an industrial prototype, is a precise four-axis synchronous controller. In industrial automation systems, it is sometimes necessary to synchronize the movement of two or more axes. In such cases, one or more electric actuators follow a main electric actuator. In these systems, the synchronous controller can act like an electronic shaft. In these applications, the efficiency of the system depends on the precise coordination of the actuators. In this invention, a precise synchronous controller with low discretization time, utilizing modern technologies including fast processors and FPGA arrays, has been developed, capable of simultaneously controlling four axes that can be coordinated or independent. Additionally, communication and software tools allow for precise adjustment and real-time monitoring of the system. The industrial prototype of this invention has been produced and is used in industrial packaging machines. The proposed invention is the first internal synchronous controller, which, due to its special design and use of modern technology, is also more precise than foreign samples.

Simultaneous control of four axes, a discretization time of 125 microseconds (which is significant for simultaneous control of four axes), real-time monitoring at a rate of 8 kHz via Ethernet (which can be used for precise adjustment of the system), achieving precise control even using inexpensive electric actuators (such as induction machines along with an inverter), and the capability of synchronizing with a pointer are among the features of the mentioned prototype.

How do you see the research situation at Qom University of Technology?

Considering the potentials present in this university, including young and motivated professors and active and dynamic students, the research situation is at a satisfactory level, which can certainly improve with the efforts and dedication of the professors and students, along with the support of the university officials.

How can research be promoted at a developing university like Qom University of Technology?

I believe that close collaboration between professors and students with industrialists and industry owners, assistance and consultation for attracting provincial and national research projects, increasing grants and their timely disbursement, and forming interdisciplinary research clusters are very effective in promoting research.

As a professor, how do you guide students interested in research and innovation to realize their ideas?

Initially, students should avoid fantasizing and presenting grand plans. They should then evaluate the usefulness and applicability of their ideas using the experiences of professors. Subsequently, they need to implement a prototype of their initial idea, and finally, they can proceed with patent registration and efforts to develop and attract investment.
