Cosmology Seminar: Explorations and Questions Held at Qom University of Technology
The third seminar of the Faculty of Basic Sciences on the topic of cosmology, explorations, and questions was held by the Faculty of Basic Sciences with the presence of professors, staff, and students on Saturday, 10/18/1393 from 12:30 to 13:30 in the Shahid Akhundi Conference Hall.
Dr. Arbabiy, the speaker of this seminar, discussed fundamental concepts of cosmology and the observational methods that are currently more widely used. He added that these methods include studying the cosmic microwave background (CMB), large-scale structure of the universe (LSS), and distant Type Ia supernovae (SNIa).
Dr. Arbabiy, a faculty member of the Basic Sciences Department, pointed out that in recent years, some Nobel Prizes have been related to astronomy. He emphasized that the discovery of the flatness of the geometry of the universe using the cosmic microwave background in 2006 and the accelerated expansion of the universe through distant supernovae in 2011 are among these instances.
He added that despite this, many questions remain unanswered to this day, the most puzzling of which involves dark matter and dark energy, which constitute 95% of the universe. Furthermore, important questions about the early universe remain, relating to the inflationary era and the initial conditions of the universe during the Big Bang, and the question of what the source of baryon asymmetry is remains unanswered.
