According to the university's public relations office: Following the elevation of Dr. Soleimani's academic rank from assistant professorship to associate professorship in the Physics Department of Qom University of Technology, a reporter from the public relations unit has arranged an interview with him to extend congratulations. The full text of this interview is as follows:
Hello, thank you for your time. Please introduce yourself.
Hello. I am Mehdi Soleimani, born in 1982, and I graduated from Shahrood University of Technology.
What subjects have you taught so far?
I have taught Solid State Physics, Superconductivity, Computer 2, Physics 1 and 2, and other courses related to my field at universities in Semnan, Shahrood, Payame Noor, Damghan, Qom University of Technology, and others.
In what field have you conducted most of your research?
I primarily work on nanostructures. However, working in this field requires teamwork. The tasks related to precise calculations are handled by colleagues in the Mathematics Department, while I focus on the physics aspects. I believe that research should be collaborative. First, one must identify the problems and needs of the country and prioritize accordingly, as the academic community should help solve the country's challenges. Then, specialized teams should be formed; this approach not only increases the speed of research but, more importantly, allows each person to advance in their area of expertise.
What steps should be taken for a useful and applicable research?
To achieve useful and applicable research, one must first become familiar with databases. We need to have a good grasp of essential information. It is important to be well-acquainted with scientific journals in our field and to find relevant articles using the correct keywords. Without the right keywords, it is difficult to search for resources effectively. I personally find a few appropriate keywords and use them to extract various articles. Usually, from the 100 articles I extract, I review about 4 to 5 of the best ones. Generally, selecting an article involves several stages: first, filtering, which is done through a quick reading, followed by precise calculations.
The method of advancing academic ranks for professors is of interest to students; please elaborate on this.
There is a specific regulation for the academic promotion of professors, which consists of 4 sections: education, culture, research, and administration, based on which points are awarded, leading to promotions in academic rank.
The cultural section pertains to the skill enhancement of professors in religious and cultural matters. The education section mainly concerns the teaching methods of professors. The research section relates to academic articles, which can receive scores ranging from 1 to 7 based on their quality.
The administrative section is related to professors' presence at the university and their research activities, as well as their completion of assigned tasks, which are reviewed by a commission for academic promotion.
As an associate professor in the Engineering Physics Department at Qom University of Technology, what research programs do you have planned for this field?
Given the presence of some students interested in research and considering my own enthusiasm, I am collaborating with students on a research project regarding the examination and simulation of semiconductor nanostructures to find optimal light absorption characteristics for the construction of optical sensors. Currently, there are two student groups working with me in this field, and we will announce the results upon the completion of the project.
