Familiarity with the Central Library and Document Center of the University
Objectives
The Qom University of Technology library aims to:
- Enhance the quality of education and research at the university.
- Centralize information resources and facilitate access.
- Develop and expand electronic resources.
- Provide services to the country's engineering community.
The Central Library is, in essence, the university’s research information centre and a hub for scientific and technological services.
Acquisition and Resource Provision Section
The university library is an integral part of the university's educational, research, and scientific systems. Its collection serves as the primary source of information for the academic community, containing the latest information on relevant subjects. This section is responsible for developing, acquiring, and supplying necessary scientific resources.
Duties
- Acquire and collect all necessary resources for the central library, including print and electronic materials, to support educational and research programs.
- Select and prioritize information resources in cooperation with faculties, coordinate resource acquisition decisions in faculty book committee meetings, and implement according to budgetary policies.
- Build the library collection through centralized purchases from Iranian and foreign publishers and participation in annual book fairs, exchanges, and donations.
- After verifying and cataloguing all acquired resources, distribute them to the relevant sections. Handle exchanges of duplicate and weeded resources, receive donated materials, inform about new resources, respond to faculty and students for needed materials, evaluate the library collection, participate actively in book fairs, and manage related correspondence.
- Other tasks include interlibrary loan and document provision, as well as supplying the information needs of students and faculty members through other libraries and research centres.
Resource Organization Section
This section centrally manages all resource organization activities, including cataloguing, preparing, and indexing Persian and foreign language materials, using modern information storage and retrieval methods.
Duties
- Descriptive cataloguing of Persian and foreign language resources based on Anglo-American cataloguing rules.
- Analytical cataloguing of Persian and foreign books using Persian and foreign subject headings (Congress subject headings).
- Classification of Persian and foreign books according to the LC classification.
- Search for bibliographic information from online bibliographic databases.
- Coordinate with other sections to enhance work efficiency.
Patron Services Section
Provides services to students, researchers, faculty members, and staff, including membership, book loans, reference services, newspapers and periodicals, and managing membership and clearance for alumni.
Duties
- Guide patrons for quick and appropriate access to information and library resources.
- Manage and provide circulation desk services (loans, returns, renewals, reservations).
- Handle membership services for permanent and temporary members (membership, clearance, etc.).
- Respond to reference inquiries and guide patrons based on their information needs.
- Organize and arrange information resources.
- Lend information resources according to internal regulations.
- Provide reference services, including journals, theses, encyclopedias, etc.
- Collaborate with the acquisition section for resource selection, evaluation, and weeding.
- Separate items that need binding and repairs and send them to the preparation section.
- Coordinate with other sections to improve work efficiency.
Financial and Support Section
This section is responsible for all related financial and support services.
University Library Committee
The library committee, composed of selected faculty members, collaborates and consults with the library to enhance quality, identify and recommend essential scientific resources for various fields, and assist in effectively managing the library.
