Objectives
The library of Qom University of Technology has the following objectives:
To help improve the quality of education and research at the university
To centralize informational resources and create access facilities
To prepare and expand electronic resources
To provide services to the engineering community of the country
The central library is essentially the research information hub of the university and a center for providing scientific and technological services.
Orders and Acquisition of Informational Resources Section
The university library is a part of the educational, research, and investigative system of the university and the library collection is considered the most important resource for meeting the informational needs of the academic community, containing the latest information across its various subject areas. This section is responsible for collection development, provision, and supply of required academic resources.
Tasks
To prepare and gather all required resources for the central library of the university, both printed and electronic, to assist in the university's educational and research programs, to select informational resources and prioritize them in collaboration with the faculties, any decision-making and coordination regarding resource acquisition takes place in committee meetings of the faculty library, and based on the resource acquisition policies and the allocated budget, is implemented in this section. The collection of resources is centralized in the university's central library, through communication with Iranian and foreign publishers and brokers, participation and purchases from annual exhibitions, and exchange and donation. All received resources are sent to the relevant sections after being checked against the collection and recorded. The exchange of duplicate and weeded resources, the receipt of donated resources, informational dissemination of new resources, responding to queries and collaborating with faculty members and students in acquiring needed resources, evaluating the library collection, holding meetings with research vice rectors, active and effective participation in book fairs, and carrying out all related correspondence are among the most important activities of this section. Another duty of the orders and resource acquisition section is the provision of document supply and interlibrary loan services, which includes meeting the informational needs of students and faculty members through other libraries and research centers.
Information Resources Organization Section
All organizational tasks regarding resources, including cataloging, preparing, and indexing Persian and Latin informational resources, are carried out in a centralized manner using modern methods in information storage and retrieval in this section.
Tasks
Descriptive cataloging of Persian and Latin informational resources based on Anglo-American rules
Analytical cataloging of Persian and Latin books based on subject headings (Library of Congress Subject Headings)
Classification of Persian and Latin books based on LC classification
Searching for bibliographic information from available online bibliographic databases
Coordinating with other sections for enhanced collaboration in operations
Patrons Services Section
Providing services to students, researchers, faculty members, and staff, including membership, book lending, reference services, newspapers and magazines, and handling the settlement of members and graduates.
Tasks
Guiding patrons for quick and suitable access to information and library resources
Managing and offering services at the circulation desk (loan, return, renewal, reservation)
Membership services and handling matters related to permanent and temporary members (membership, settlement, etc.)
Responding to reference inquiries and guiding patrons based on their informational needs
Shelving and organizing informational resources
Lending informational resources in accordance with internal regulations
Providing reference services including: publications, theses, encyclopedias, etc.
Collaborating with the resource acquisition section in selection, evaluation, and weeding of resources
Identifying resources that require binding and restoration and sending them to the preparation section
Coordinating with other sections for enhanced collaboration in operations
Finance and Support Affairs Section
Managing all financial affairs and supporting services is the responsibility of this section.
University Book Committee
The Book Committee is composed of selected members from the academic groups of the faculties, and one of the main objectives of this committee is to collaborate and coordinate between faculty members and the library to enhance quality, identify and introduce the necessary scientific resources for the existing disciplines and specialties, and assist in the effective management of the library.
