The objectives and duties of this department include:
- Implementing high-level policies and guidelines regarding laboratories and workshops
- Supervising affiliated laboratory centers, analyzing results, and taking legal action when necessary
- Communicating directives and guidelines to affiliated units
- Handling administrative correspondence and inquiries from universities
- Organizing training sessions (workshops and conferences) for affiliated experts and technical supervisors
- Compiling statistics and data on affiliated laboratories and preparing departmental performance reports
- Evaluating laboratory blueprints and layouts, and conducting preliminary site visits to assess required modifications for laboratories and workshops
- Providing expert opinions on all matters related to laboratories and workshops
- Formulating the operational plan for the Laboratory Affairs Department based on needs
- Addressing complaints and receiving grievances from clients of affiliated laboratories
- Issuing necessary verbal and written warnings to laboratory technical supervisors
- Reviewing applications for establishment and commissioning
- Gathering documentation and preparing agendas for presentation to the Laboratory Council
- Responding to inquiries from universities across the country
- Conducting continuous inspections and supervision of laboratories and workshops
- Performing final inspections of laboratories under establishment
- Planning and executing inspection visits - Conducting continuous expert assessments of laboratories regarding compliance with standards and adherence to technical and diagnostic principles—including evaluations of staffing levels, facility adequacy, and the quality of equipment, supplies, kits, and reagents—as well as formulating, establishing, and aligning scientific, technical, legal, and operational guidelines and communicating them to the laboratories.
- Planning for the recruitment of technical personnel subject to the mandatory human resources service scheme.
- Maintaining ongoing communication with laboratory and workshop experts and academic department heads to resolve issues; supervising and vetting requests for equipment and consumables for laboratories and workshops based on actual needs and the unit's best interests and cost-efficiency.
- Planning for the implementation of the parent ministry's policies regarding laboratory standardization.
