Abstract: QCD axion models based on the Peccei-Quinn (PQ) U(1) global axial symmetry have been proposed as a natural solution to the strong CP problem. I will briefly review this problem and show how the axion mechanism provides a solution. Effective interactions of the QCD axion, phenomenological consequences and experimental searches will be shortly discussed. I will review QCD axion model classes, focusing particularly on their cosmological implications, and finally discuss heavy QCD axion scenarios.
